Always wanted to learn to sew but didn’t know where to start?
Never touched a sewing machine before?
This friendly four-week course is designed to give you a strong foundation in machine sewing, helping you understand the basics and feel ready to continue sewing at home or progress onto one of our follow-on courses, ie, Level 2 and Dressmaking.
Across four weekly sessions, you’ll learn how to set up, use, and understand your sewing machine while creating a series of simple, guided projects you’ll be proud to take home.
No experience needed. Just bring curiosity, we’ll guide you every step of the way.
By the End of This Course, You’ll Be Able To
✔ Set up and confidently operate a sewing machine
✔ Thread your machine and solve common sewing problems yourself
✔ Sew straight and curved seams with control and accuracy
✔ Understand how fabric placement affects construction
✔ Cut fabric safely and accurately
✔ Finish and press projects so they look professional
Each session builds on the last, helping you grow in skill and confidence week by week.
What You’ll Make
You’ll complete a range of beginner-friendly projects designed to build your skills while keeping sewing enjoyable and achievable.
Previous student projects have included:
• Scissor holders
• Cushion covers
• Drawstring bags
• Storage caddy bags
Even if you’ve never sewn before, these projects are fully achievable with guidance.
What To Bring
Please bring your own FULL SIZE sewing machine (or select our hire option) and a small sewing toolkit.
You’ll need:
• Fabric scissors
• Fabric clips or pins
• Fabric marker or chalk pencil
• Seam ripper (unpicker)
• Spare bobbins for your machine
• Machine thread (Gutermann 100% polyester recommended)
Studio cutting mats, rulers, and irons are available during class.
Optional Course Add-Ons
Machine Hire (a limited amount of different machines available)
Use a studio sewing machine throughout the course (in-studio use only). Includes needles and thread needed for projects.
Fabric Pack
All fabrics supplied — no need to source materials or worry about choosing the right types.
Full Package
Machine hire + fabrics + thread + studio tools + basic sewing kit.
